Kansas Stories: Marlon
Marlon is from Kansas City, Kansas. Here is his story:
“I haven’t had insurance in about 5 years. I used to be a normal, healthy guy. Now I’m almost bedridden. It’s a horrible experience.
“I’ve had strokes and my kidneys shut down on me. I go back to the hospital constantly with high blood pressure and they don’t take care of my other problems, just patch me up and let me go.
“I’ve lost over 150 lbs recently because I’m so sick. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep but I try to keep a good attitude.
“I have a hard time getting to doctors’ appointments so sometimes I miss them because of my health. My medication is very expensive so I can’t always afford to take it.
“Because of my declining health, I can’t work and it’s a vicious cycle because I can’t afford to take my medicine or go to the doctor. I can’t spend time with loved ones because I am pretty much stuck in bed due to my health.
“I want to get back to the way I was before – I’m the opposite of the person I was before I got sick.”
