Emporia Gazette: Medicaid expansion will help small hospitals
By Don Hill | March 30, 2019
In 2010 the United States Congress enacted, and the President signed The Affordable Care Act.
In 2012 the United State Supreme Court ruled the Affordable Care Act was constitutional, but Medicaid expansion was optional for each state. Since that time 36 states, including, most recently Utah, Nebraska and Idaho, have voted to provide improved access to health care including preventative care.
Many Republican-led “Red” states like Kansas are among expansion states. For those states, it comes down to pragmatic policy making. Is it important to improve the health of our state’s residents? Is it important to be resourceful? Is it important to leverage the investments our state has made in our health care delivery systems?
