Expanding Medicaid is critically important to the Kansas economy and to the competitiveness of Kansas businesses.
Accordingly, we call on the Kansas legislature to act in the 2024 legislative session to expand Medicaid and extend affordable health coverage to an estimated 150,000 Kansans, the majority of whom are already working.
Expansion of Medicaid would lead to an additional $900 million in new annual federal funding coming into Kansas; the creation of an estimated 22,900 jobs; reductions in business healthcare costs by up to $80 million per year; and decreased worker absenteeism due to personal and family health challenges – all at no cost to Kansas businesses.
It’s a commonsense step forward for our economy that both Republican and Democratic lawmakers should support.
