Updated research shows economic impact of Medicaid expansion

Updated research from Kansas State University economist Dr. John Leatherman shows that Medicaid expansion will bring hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding into Kansas each year, which will create increase economic activity that will increase tax revenues to the state and local governments.

Those increased state and local revenues are expected to offset almost the entire state cost of expansion.

Highlights of the report show that in the first year of expansion implementation alone (2023), Kansas can expect:

• $35 million to $44 million in state revenues
• $26 million to $33 million in local government revenues
• 13, 593 new jobs created
