Governor Laura Kelly’s new legislation to expand KanCare was introduced today in the Senate by Sen. Dinah Sykes and in the House Committee on Federal State and Affairs at the request of Rep. Stephanie Sawyer Clayton. We want to take a moment and thank Governor Laura Kelly for proposing a comprehensive plan to cover 150,000 hardworking Kansans in the coverage gap.

Kansans are tired of waiting for the Legislature to find a way to extend health coverage to working people who earn too much to qualify for KanCare today but not enough to buy health insurance on their own.

We have been here before, so we know expanding KanCare will take all of us, working together, to push lawmakers to act. Kansas is now surrounded by states that have expanded their own Medicaid programs. It is time for lawmakers to expand KanCare.

We commend the introduction of this vital legislation, and hope you will join us in thanking Governor Kelly and the coalition of legislators who stand with the 78% of Kansans who support expanding KanCare.
