Kansas is one of only 12 states in the U.S. that has not expanded its Medicaid program. Recently one of the other 12 hold-out states, South Dakota, took one step towards expansion when a citizen initiative succeeded in getting Medicaid expansion on their ballot this coming November.
Politicians in South Dakota, just like in Kansas, have rejected expansion for years. This ballot initiative will now give South Dakota voters a chance to have their voices heard on expansion.
